Decorating for Christmas is a great way to get into the holiday spirit and set the stage for holiday gatherings.
Lights
Decorate with twinkle lights to add sparkle to your Christmas. Hang strings of lights shaped like snowflakes, stars, or candy canes in bushes, trees, or from the eaves.
Luminaries
Cut snowflake or star patterns in one side of several paper lunch bags. Fill bags with a couple inches of sand or gravel. Place a votive candle or tea light in each bag and light on Christmas Eve or the night of your holiday gathering.
Snowflakes
Cut snowflakes out of white paper. For a stained glass effect cut two identical snowflakes (two pieces of paper folded together). Then place a colored tissue paper circle between the snowflakes and glue together. Tape against a window so the light can shine through the tissue.
Paper Chains
Cut construction paper into strips of approximately 1 inch wide by 9 inches long (the length of a standard piece of construction paper). Glue, tape, or staple strip into a ring. Then add rings to form a chain. Hang across doorway or on Christmas tree.
Greenery
Add holiday color to your house and yard by displaying pine or holly branches throughout your home during December.
Snowy Pine Cones
Paint glue on the tips of a pine cone and sprinkle with white glitter. For an extra snowy effect, spray paint pine cones white before adding glitter tips.
Holiday Village
Collect a variety of small plastic or ceramic holiday figures and place on fireplace mantle, on top of a bookshelf, or inside a glass-doored cabinet. Decorate with small pieces of greenery and sprinkle with artificial snow and glitter to create a winter scene.
Gingerbread House
Make a gingerbread house. Decorate with white icing and red hots, gumdrops, and peppermints.
